Amanda Coulson, a female boxer, came to Redcar Academy on 9th May to work with some of our students throughout the day. The primary purpose of the visit was to celebrate the hard work of our Y10 group that have ran their own handball club with Y7’s.
Amanda looked to develop wider skills and qualities with our students using the ‘six keys to success’. The focus Y10 sports studies group were given challenges to create their own games and to listen to everyone’s ideas. Amanda challenged their ‘hunger’ to succeed and mental toughness through various tasks. Nathan Neeve and Billie-Rae Richmond (Y10) even broke Amanda’s school record for performing the ‘plank’ gaining times of 5.21 and 5.22 – outstanding!!
The remaining sessions in the day were devoted to a group of Y7 & Y8 AFA students who worked on team building and confidence and a Y9 & Y10 talented girls groups who were given a master class in boxing.
Students that worked with Amanda thoroughly enjoyed their experience and were a credit to the academy. It is hoped that we can work with Amanda again in the future when we plan our ‘sky sports living for sport’ project next year.
