The last two weeks have seen both the highs and lows of life in our academy. On Monday 17th June we hosted our first ‘Race at your place’ to raise money for Cancer Research. Staff, students and parents turned out in the evening, many in fancy dress, to walk, run or dance their way around the course of 4 kilometres. The sight of Mr Moulding in panda suit will stay with me for a long time! I had a great night walking around with Mrs Hall catching up on all our news. This is one of the many fundraising events over the last two weeks. On Thursday some Y7 students hosted a cake sale to raise money for the ‘Invisible Children’ charity; helping your people in parts of Africa have a better life. A group of boys have planned a football tournament to raise money for CRY; a charity that helps families who have someone who is young die from cardiac problems. And on Thursday, we had a non-uniform day to raise money to support our cadet force raise the cost of a trip to Germany in summer 2014. The generosity of our students, parents and staff is absolutely fantastic.
The other high was Sports Day on Monday 24th June at Clairville Stadium in Middlesbrough. We took the whole student body to the event and participation was the best ever. All four houses showed their competitive side and students volunteered left and right to represent their house. By the start of next week we should know the overall winning house.
The lowest part of the last two weeks came on Tuesday 18th June when I took the call from Ofsted to tell me they would be in on the Wednesday and Thursday. We had our Y11 Prom planned for the Tuesday night and staff had worked so hard to create the ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory theme’. Instead of enjoying the celebration with Y11, many of us had our minds on the next two days. Ofsted came and went in two days- like a whirl wind! The team of inspectors were very fair and made the whole experience a painless as possible; but they were Ofsted and they were here to inspect our performance. The report will be published next week for all our parents and friends to read. I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to our students and staff who were fantastic.
