On 7th, 8th & 9th June – Mr Williams, Mr Smith & Mr Hopper took a group of 19 Y10 GCSE PE students to the Yorkshire Dales. Students were undertaking an assessment in their orienteering skills for their PE practical marks. The weekend was spent at Low Mill Farm Outdoor Centre where staff and students had great fun with some fantastic weather. Activities included orienteering and gorge walking.
We arrived on Friday night (7th June) and went straight out a night walk along some of the local footpaths. On Saturday morning, Ashley braved the morning tiredness to head out on a 4km run with the teachers. The rest of Saturday was spent undertaking 3 orienteering courses around the local area. One major highlight was a student’s sudden and unsuspecting fear of cows! Saturday evening saw a wonderful display of football talent with a final score of 12-11 to Mr Williams & Mr Hopper’s team! Sunday morning was definitely the highlight of the trip with a morning spent scrambling up a river source. Fears were overcome, and bravery shown as we conquered the huge gorge!
Overall, the trip was a huge success. Students behaved and worked in an extremely positive manner and were a credit to the academy!
