On Wednesday the 2nd of October a group of Y9 and Y10 students, both girls and boys, were invited to view a short excerpt of a performance by C12 Dance Theatre. C12 aim to create work which links physical dance with theatrical elements in order to engage communities and young people.
The performance took place in the new LRC at the academy, as the piece called ‘Shhh’ is based around libraries. The students then had the opportunity to take part in a movement workshop with C12 and learn some of the choreography and work as a team to create their own work.
Some of the students went on a trip to the Arc in Stockton to watch C12 perform the full version of ‘Shhh’, which was a mixture of contemporary and hip-hop dance. Two large bookshelves were also used as part of the performance in a daring story about the closure of a library.
All of the students enjoyed both the performance and workshop and the work created throughout the day was adapted and then shown for the official opening of the LRC.
