Monday 7th October was the official opening of the new library and learning resource centre in our Academy. Some time ago the school library was changed into a classroom and we’ve been trying to find a new space to make our library. Over the summer the site manager and his team have transformed an English classroom into the new learning resource centre.
The Farwath Trust donated the money to help us achieve the transformation. The members of the Trust were invited in to make the official opening. The Farwath Trust have supported the school since the 1980’s with grants which have enabled departments and the school to add something extra to the provision for our students- The Farwath Centre for the performing arts is the most obvious example.
Rob Placket, Margaret Griffiths, Carole Brown and Frank Corbett are the Farwath Trust and they open the centre that has their name. Frank Corbett talked about the long association the members have with the school and their support through the investment of funds raised by selling an outdoor centre owned by the school many years ago. The academy is grateful for their on-going support and generosity.
Our students have access the learning resource centre at break, lunchtime and after school for independent learning and borrowing books. Each class will have an English lesson once a fortnight in the centre and other subjects can book the space for their learning.
In addition the Academy has managed to bid for a grant from Foyles books so we can but some new books for our students.
