On the 11th of September I had the pleasure of going to the Sainsbury’s school games, I was the only 1 from our school but I was accompanied by 7 others from other schools.
On Wednesday afternoon almost straight after travelling we had to face a 6 hours long training course were to were made aware of child protection and told more information about the school games and just how valuable we are to them.
On Thursday morning after the long day we had yesterday we were at the athletes village were we met future Olympians we were in charge of getting them to the opening ceremony. Easier said than done! After this tiring job we then got to join them on the fanatic opening ceremony were the atmosphere was amazing and again told just how important we are to the school games.
Friday morning we started our first official job. Table tennis, they were only simple jobs like collecting the balls but it was a really big help for the disabled players, which were extremely thankful.
Saturday defiantly seemed the longest which we participated in volleyball a game which really needs concentration whether it was mopping or ball collecting it was extremely important we got it right. And also I got to escort a team into the volleyball court and listen to the Sainsbury’s school games anthem. One word ’Proud’.
Sunday was the last day we were going to take part and that was swimming, we started with a competition to get them started which was defiantly the right thing to wake me up after the tiring days before. I then was part of collecting the athlete’s equipment and removing them from the pool side which only seems a little thing but everyone appreciated it.
Overall the whole experience was amazing and something i will never forget and besides I got freebies 2 tops and 2 hoodies!!
But the school games wouldn’t have worked without the volunteers and I was someone who made that happen.
