On Friday 17th January 2014, the Science Department at Redcar Academy hosted a visit from Blue Watch from Redcar Fire Station for two Year 7 classes. There was a demonstration of a chip pan fire, with advice on how to tackle this type of fire both correctly and incorrectly. Below shows what happens when you put water on a chip pan fire.
Two members of blue watch highlighted the hazards of gas ignition by demonstrating a controlled ignition of methane gas.
Finally the Year 7’s were educated about fire safety in the home. They were taught about what to do in the event of discovering a fire and if they were trapped in a fire, including what to do when the smoke alarm sounds, how to raise the alarm and how to minimise the risk of fire in their home.
We’re no longer here! We’re over at @OutwoodRedcar now!
