We have a very special guest blog this week from the 2x Olympian, Double Commonwealth Champ, Chris Cook – who visited Redcar Academy on 21st March 2014.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with the students at Redcar Academy, starting with Year 11 who were treated to reward assembly to start the visit. I was then given the opportunity to work with the Academy’s sports leaders group and this, for me, was a real highlight of the visit. The leadership qualities they demonstrated were some of the strongest I’ve seen in a school. We organised a motivational session alongside team building, it was brilliant to see all the students from mixed year groups working together but enjoying themselves at the same time. As a guest in school I was extremely impressed with the students hospitality, their willingness to be involved in the session and how open they all were for a challenge – they really did bring some energy to the sessions.
The leadership group are part of Sky Sports Living for Sport programme and I couldn’t be prouder to be the mentor and to support the work that they are doing in the academy and across the primary schools in the area, they are a true credit to the academy.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the students from Redcar Academy when I return in May, I was made to feel like a member of the team – thank you!
