Back in September KS3 students of Redcar Academy were encouraged through the Design and Technology department to enter the “We Made It!” competition run by Dods Innovation UK. A competition involving students designing an innovative engineered gadget, toy or gismo that doesn’t already exist.
The Design & Technology department then selected the best 10 to represent the Academy. These designs along with designs from other schools across Redcar and Cleveland were then passed to Ian Swales MP to select his constituency winner. Ian Swales MP chose a Y9 student: Edie Palmer-Mitchell’s design of an innovative “shower cap” to represent him and the Redcar and Cleveland constituency. All across the UK other MP’s were putting their winners forward to the semi-finals.
Edie was chosen as one of the top 24 innovative designs in the UK and was invited down to London to the Houses of Parliament for an awards ceremony. Ian Swales MP presented Edie with her award during the ceremony. After the Ceremony Edie was given a personal guided tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Redcar Academy would like to congratulate Edie on this prestigious award and recognition of her innovative design.
