Last week was an amazing time here in the Academy.
We had designated it ‘Creativity Week’. From Monday- Wednesday staff had offered a number of activities and students chose to spend three days in these activities. We had: F1 cars, cake decorating, NFL experience, war gaming, Kan-u-Kodu, Bling your thing to mention but a few of the workshops on offer. Year 7, 8 and 9 worked together and Year 10 spent time finding out about the opportunities in some of the further education providers in the area.
On Thursday we held our annual sports day and for the second year the whole school went to Claireville athletics stadium to participate and spectate. The PE team did a fabulous job to plan and coordinate the whole event, which went off without a hitch. The houses cheered their team and some amazing races were run.
On Thursday evening we hosted an open evening for children in Year 5 and 4 in our local area. This was the first time we’ve hosted an open evening in the summer term. Our staff and students worked hard to present their success. A highlight of the evening was the presentations from our head boy and head girl- Ben McDonald and Chloe Harrington.
Friday brought our Year 11 Art exhibition opening event. We had chosen Kirkleatham Old Hall museum as the venue for the exhibition. A big thank you to the museum and to Mr Carney and his team for setting up a very professional exhibition. The quality of the Year 11 work was fantastic!
And finally, to end the week 24 of our Year 11 students took part in the silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition to complete their silver award.
Staff found the energy and enthusiasm to see them through the week and our students conducted themselves well throughout. I’m proud of all our staff and students for the efforts they made so last week was a successful one for all. Today we start our new academic year with all years promoted up with their new courses beginning. What an achievement!
