Design and Technology staff, Mrs Gill and Mr Carter, had the pleasure of taking the group of girls to the Darlington Engineering company, Cummins. Our year 9 & 10 Design and Engineering students were given a tour around the plant and completed activities that included developing Japanese style problem solving skills such as ‘Value Stream Transformation’. The girls were also shown different opportunities for women that are available within engineering and manufacturing and how Cummins offer apprenticeships, work experience and summer internships to young people. Cummins representative, Sarah Robinson (Six Sigma Master Black Belt) is a former student from our school, she explained the opportunities her career has given her including working in America and Asia.
Later this year, Cummins will be celebrating 50 years in business and our girls are pictured below next to the ‘millionth’ engine off their production line.
