PUPILS at a Redcar school have collected hundreds of food donations to help those in poverty.
Children at Redcar Academy produced 20 large boxes for Redcar Food Bank from the collection, arranged by teacher Antony Pearson, The leader of the school’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural charity group put forward the idea after discovering the many people Redcar Food Bank has helped. “The kids have been outstanding, I’m really, really proud of them, it was a really good effort,”
the geography teacher said. “They were just brilliant, they’ve been incredibly giving.”
The collection was conducted at the start of the day, and the children led the way with generous donations under the supervision of staff. Redcar Food Bank manager Helen Hedges, 52, said: “We have fed over 12,000 people in three years in Redcar and Cleveland and a third of that number is children, the public are very generous. The Redcar Academy effort was really great, they’ve probably collected about 200 tins of food.” The food bank hands
