The new examination strategy has just been launched in March 2016 for all academy students from years 7-11. Home Learning Strategy
This academic year we have implemented a new home learning strategy that will consolidate and extend progress made in lessons. In order to do this effectively we have linked home learning to teacher feedback. This encourages students to act upon teacher feedback and demonstrate progress. As part of our Marking and Assessment Policy staff use PIN marking to give students detailed feedback.
P – Praise/Positives – In this section staff will identify what a student has done well in a particular piece of work.
I – Improvements – In this section staff will identify what a student needs to do to improve the work further and in some cases achieve the next grade/level.
N – Next Steps – In this section staff will give students instructions on what to do next. Eg) Re-draft for home learning acting upon my feedback.
To make it clear to students exactly what needs to be re-drafted we have linked marking to a new initiative called the Pink Box Strategy. Staff will highlight areas/questions that need to be re-drafted with a pink box. Once students have completed home learning and re-submitted work it will be marked again to identify improvements.
There is a booklet available on our Home Learning section of the website. In this booklet you will find an overview of home learning for all year groups for the Summer term. There will be 3 quality homeworks per Praising Stars. All home learning will also be written in students planners at the time it is set. Additional materials needed to support homework will be referenced in the booklet and linked on the website within departmental folders. All students will receive a paper copy of the booklet on their return to school from 11.4.16.
From September 2016 will map out all the homework for the 6 praising stars captures and provide a similar booklet. Our home learning strategy is aimed at students completing quality and purposeful homework linked to our learning in lessons.
